Local Description

A body of work forty years in the making from the "forgotten star" of Aotearoa / New Zealand's performance poetry. This collection covers 1984-2023 as selected from Bisset's portfolio by former poet laureate David Eggleton.

Bisset was a professional performance poet from 1979-86, publishing 3 books in that time; the first, "beginnings", was a best-seller in his homeland. As he believes "performance is half the art", he stopped publishing when he stopped performing. Now he has decided to release his subsequent work through this collection.

As Eggleton notes in his foreword, "endings" is ordered chronologically like a diary. "As an autobiography it is philosophical, wry, irreverent, shrewd and down-to-earth. Bruce Bisset is no baffler. He uses poetry to speak his truth as someone from the school of hard knocks. The poems are there to be chanted in the key of life."
